My oh my, have I been around the beaten path with you, D.E.T. How many forms have you come to me in now? The idea was conceived nearly 4 years ago, starting as a loop in Reason which I had initially worked as a collaboration with my friend Geoff Brandin (Supreme Beings of Leisure). I think it was our collective stab at commercial work but it mutated into something different. And fast. There was a bass track put on here that was wicked & stayed the course for many iterations. The 2nd version of this song was a collaboration between me & friend Garret Hammontree on vocals & Chris Phillips (Squirrel Nut Zippers) on drums & recording duties. I loved what we did together and that is how it stayed for years. But it would just not stay down. The idea came back up at the beginning of this year, 2011, and what you are hearing now is the final version, version 73. Yes, we’ve been through a lot of changes together. I learned from this experience that if you hold on to an idea long enough, you will outgrow it. There are elements explored in here that aren’t reflective of my path in this moment, but I’m proud to have honored the process.
